Today (Tuesday, Dec. 9th), Millennial Trains Project CEO and National Geographic Traveler Editor-at-Large Patrick Dowd will speak at the White House Travel Bloggers Summit about how MTP was inspired by the Fulbright Program and how its innovative journeys are designed to build next-generation leaders, engage communities, and inspire faith in America's future.

The event will be live streamed on www.whitehouse.gov/live from 2:15 to 5:20 PM EST tomorrow afternoon. Patrick will participate as part of a panel scheduled to take place from 2:50-3:30 PM.

Other speakers include Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, Deputy National Security Advisor Benjamin Rhodes, Chief of Staff to the First Lady Tina Tchen, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Evan Ryan, and Director of the White House Office of Social Innovation & Civic Participation Jonathan Greenblatt.

Patrick's remarks will focus on:

∆ How MTP has established a framework for publicly-engaging and socially-impactful journeys that serve as a civic and entrepreneurial right of passage for future generations;

∆ How international education, cultural, and professional exchange programs like the Fulbright Program develop next-generation leaders and support innovations that benefit the United States;

∆ How traveling, studying, volunteering, and working abroad equips students with skills and experiences that support professional success in the 21st century economy;

∆ Why gaining exposure to the diverse regions and cultures of the United States is equally important as studying abroad;

 The distinction between purposeful travel experiences and conventional tourism.

The Summit, convened by the National Security Council, will host 100 of the most influential travel bloggers and digital media outlets. Consistently at the forefront of trends in the industry, travel bloggers and digital media outlets develop innovative ways to communicate experiences with Millennials and young leaders about international exploration. By transforming interest in travel into study, volunteer, and work opportunities, the Administration seeks to significantly increase the number and diversity of young people participating in educational, cultural, and professional experiences internationally.
