Kaymu, Kuluya Games, Find-A-Med And Other Hot Startup Stories In Nigeria

This is is just an early week round up of the hottest stories in Startups in case you have missed any. Here goes; Rocket Internet’s, Kaymu an online marketplace in Nigeria has launched its ‘Seller Referral Scheme’ and ‘Seller Pathway’ programmes to enable its users to earn money without selling any products and sellers to increase their performance.
Kaymu
The referral scheme is designed to generate revenue for Kaymu sellers who recommended friends and family to use and successfully drive high quality traffic to the platform. Existing sellers can partake in this scheme simply by asking a potential seller to successfully list products on Kaymu. The details of the referees will be obtained during the verification process and they start earning as they watch their friends progress through the seller pathway.

Yesterday Iroko TV CEO Jason Njoku announced on his blog the launch of a new platform Foto.com.ng which is a platform that hopes to solve the issues of finding culturally, environmentally and ethnically relevant stock images. So far Spark has invested ~$70,000 and have another $80,000 for the first 6 months post-launch.
LeadPath
Dubbed “Pathfinders”, the Leadpath Nigeria accelerator has opened its doors for a 3 month program which will see enrolled startups gain access to seed funding between $25k to $100k (depending on their needs and the size of the opportunity) and as well get mentoring and back office support like Legal, Accounting, Tax, Recruitment etc, to enable the companies focus on delivering a viable product to the market.
The Leadpath Nigeria accelerator says it will take in just five pathfinders for its first batch which have to be early stage tech startups in the mobile space, e-commerce, payment solutions and big data.
Travelstart Nigeria 
Africa’s online travel agency – Travelstart, says it’s experiencing  a significant and steady growth of the Nigerian online travel market in 2013, and the expansion of its own Nigerian branch operations as users turn to web and mobile devices to fulfil their travel needs, browsing travel websites for travel tips, advice and information about different destinations to visit. “The substantial growth of online travel bookings in Nigeria signifies strengthening times for Travelstart in 2014 and we look forward to seeing more Nigerians consume travel content on our website.” says Maija de Rijk-Uys,  Head of International Markets at Travelstart.
Find A Med
Inspired by the loss of a friends whose lives could have been saved, and daily random accident victims whose lost lives before they could get any medical attention, Nigeria’s JumpSpace Communications has lunched a location-based mobile application in a move to help end this menace.
Dubbed Find-A-Med, the app helps users find nearest health centers around them, store their basic health records and as well keep track their health  on the go via their mobile phones. The app, currently available on the Google Play and Apple stores and online at www.find-a-med.com for free, has already signed up over 5000 medical centers to give users access to its rich database of the country’s hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, dental care, eye care, laboratories and other medical centers, as real physical location and turn-by-turn directions to medical centers near them.
Kuluya Games
The over $2 million worth Nigerian-based, Spark incubated African gaming company Kuluya Games has launched an SMS payment platform for some of its games, in a move that will see its users buy games and items that come with the games and also easily allow the developers to earn from their games. Kuluya has also partnered with Mtech to launch a new game dubbed KEKE and it’s available on Windows Phone and Android stores. The firm is now doing a pilot run for the game.Last year, the online African gaming company raised a seed stage investment valuing the company at $2 Million. The firm said the funds were to be used to expand its commercial activities. KULUYA allows players to play, make bets, and make money through competitive cash.
