
As the World Cup kicked off in Brazil last month, the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets
campaign announced its newest champion in the fight against malaria:
American soccer player DaMarcus Beasley, who played on the U.S. men's
national soccer team at the World Cup. The star defender committed to donating 25 insecticide-treated bed nets to families in sub-Saharan Africa for every U.S. win in the World Cup, as well as 10 nets for every tie. He also called on U.S. soccer fans to join his challenge and match donations to the campaign.
